MOEITS was outgrowing its current platform, which limited feature implementation for Local 150’s 24,000 trade union members.

Showoff developed a new Heroku platform integrated with Salesforce Service Cloud, enhancing flexibility, scalability, and security.

The system has streamlined operations and improved member experience, with projections showing it will pay for itself within three years.

New system to pay for itself within 3 years

Cost savings reinvested for future enhancements

“Our priority is making sure our technology enables the people who work for Local 150 to meet the needs of our 24,000 members and their families: everything from IT helpdesk support and developing applications, to implementing long-term projects.”

- Scott Crow, Senior Director of IT

Digital expansion goals

MOEITS is the technology hub for Local 150 of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE). Senior Director of IT at MOEITS, Scott Crow explains, “Our priority is making sure our technology enables the people who work for Local 150 to meet the needs of our 24,000 members and their families: everything from IT helpdesk support and developing applications, to implementing long-term projects.”

The existing platform lacked flexibility to keep up with changing user needs for members used to paper-based systems. To address technological skepticism and diverse requirements while ensuring security and efficiency, MOEITS partnered with Showoff to create a better member engagement platform.

Enhancing Service Delivery

The project began with a thorough discovery phase where Showoff's team analyzed MOEITS' operations to understand the challenges faced by Local 150 members.

Showoff developed a custom platform on Heroku, integrated with Salesforce Service Cloud, to centralize member interactions and enhance case management for more responsive services. The platform facilitates seamless information flow across various MOEITS services and supports rapid feature development based on member feedback.

To protect sensitive union and member data, Showoff implemented strong security measures, including two-factor authentication and encrypted data transmission, ensuring compliance with GDPR and CCPA. User-centric design was prioritized to create an intuitive interface, allowing easy access to services for both union staff and members.

A modern digital platform yields returns

The new digital platform has provided flexibility to allow for the addition of new features based on member feedback, boosting engagement and member satisfaction. Data management is now more agile, securely storing sensitive information while ensuring accessibility.

Financially, the system is expected to pay for itself within 3 years, allowing for reinvestment in improvements. This infrastructure positions MOEITS to expand services for Local 150 members and lead in union technology.

What's next for MOEITS?

Building on the success of the initial collaboration, MOEITS is already exploring new projects with Showoff. “We're looking at a different project that would be something new for them," Crow reveals. "There is definitely potential to bring other business to the table."

As the partnership continues to evolve, both organisations are committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in union member services through innovative technology solutions.
